Following is the transcript (English portion) of remarks by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, at a media stand-up on the 2009-10 Policy Address today (October 14):

The Chief Executive has just delivered his 2009-10 Policy Address. It is a pragmatic, comprehensive and forward-looking Policy Address.

In the past year, Hong Kong has collectively overcome and mitigated the impact of the global financial crisis. I think the results are there for everyone to see. Although we are not out of the woods yet, I feel we have made significant achievements in stabilising the economy so that we may build on it for our future.

This Policy Address has consolidated or strengthened the four existing economic pillars and also has some forward-looking industries in six major areas. We feel that this will give us a good platform to build a more diversified and more balanced, all-around economy. The Policy Address has also made a number of  initiatives in terms of regional co-operation, in terms of governance, in terms of building a caring society, and many of these initiatives are extremely progressive as well as forward-looking initiatives.

I and the whole government team will collectively work together to deliver and take forward many of these initiatives. I hope that the Legislative Council and the community will work with us in taking all these initiatives forward.
