Police seized 1.2 million suspected cocaine

Police smashed a cocaine distribution centre in Wan Chai and seized about 900 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of $1.2 million this evening (October 12).

Acting on information, officers of the Hong Kong Island Regional Special Duty Squad (RSDSHKI) intercepted a 41-year-old man who was leaving a premises at 16 Tai Wong East Street at about 5.30pm and found 43 grams of suspected cocaine in his possession.

The officers then searched the premises and further seized 865 grams of suspected cocaine and some packaging equipment.

The flat is believed to be a drug packaging and storage centre supplying drugs to major entertainment premises on Hong Kong Island.

The drugs seized could fetch about $1.2 million if sold in the local retail market.

The man was arrested for trafficking in dangerous drugs and possession of drug manufacturing and packaging equipment. He is being detained for further enquiries and investigation by RSDSHKI is ongoing.

A Police spokesman stressed that Police are taking vigorous efforts to tackle youth drug abuse and will continue to combat drug sources.
