A proprietor was fined $40,000 at Sha Tin Magistrates' Court today (October 12) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident on October 23 last year on a construction site at Sha Tin when a worker was electrocuted while installing wall-mounted lightings.
According to section 6A(2)(a) of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the proprietor must provide and maintain a safe system of work that is, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risks to health of the persons employed. Any proprietor who fails to do so is liable to a fine of $500,000 and to imprisonment for six months.
