The Postmaster General, Mr Clement Cheung, today (October 5) announced that in support of World Post Day, Hongkong Post will organise a "One Person, One Letter" Free Post Day on Friday (October 9).
World Post Day is celebrated each year on October 9, a date marking the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874. October 9 was subsequently declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress in 1969 and has since been celebrated by different countries around the world.
"Letter-writing is a unique means of communication as well as a powerful way to express tender love and care. In the hope of encouraging people to keep in touch with someone close to their heart, we are organising the 'One Person, One Letter' Free Post Day for the sixth consecutive year. This meaningful event also supports our mission of 'Linking People, Delivering Business'", said Mr Cheung.
On Free Post Day, people are invited to send one personal letter for free to a designated recipient in Hong Kong. Special posting boxes will be placed at all post offices (except the two mobile post offices) to receive these personal letters on that day (see attachment for details).
For further information about the "One Person, One Letter" Free Post Day, please visit local post offices or the Hongkong Post website (www.hongkongpost.com), or call the Hongkong Post hotline (tel: 2921 2222).
