Five employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 25) obtained three orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $300,000 against three employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $59,000 on behalf of 34 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgments against three employers, namely, Joyful Management & Security Co. Limited, PECO Security System Limited and Wah Tai Farm Company Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $121,403.02, $108,268.56 and $76,773.91, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 70, three and 17 employees of the defendants respectively.

     Meanwhile, at the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendants K.Y. Catering (Holdings) Limited trading as Asteroid Seafood Restaurant and Blue Sky Enterprise Limited trading as Incontro, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $41,054.99 and $18,300.66 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants each to pay costs of $930. The Tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $228 and $200 as the costs in respect of the claims.
