Kwai Chung Hospital cluster of Human Swine Influenza in male ward

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A Kwai Chung Hospital spokesperson made the following announcement today (September 25):

     Since September 19, five patients (aged from 27 to 41) of a male ward had presented with symptoms of fever and flu.  Viral tests were arranged and all were subsequently confirmed with Human Swine Influenza. They are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.  

     Admission and visits to the ward concerned are suspended for the time being.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.  Thorough cleaning and disinfection had been arranged to enhance infection control measures of the ward.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority head office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
