The Tsuen Wan District Council and Tsuen Wan District Office today (September 24) launched three large-scale cleaning campaigns in support of the territory-wide "Clean Hong Kong" campaign, targeting single elderly people, black spots in rural areas and private buildings in the district.
The Chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council, Mr Chau How-chen, and District Officer (Tsuen Wan), Mr Cheung Doi-ching, officiated at the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chau said, "Residents' participation is vital in keeping the community clean. Through a wide range of cleaning activities, we hope to strengthen the public's awareness of the importance of environmental hygiene and appeal for their co-operation in keeping the district clean."
Mr Cheung said, "We will continue to mobilise district forces to help spread the message of hygiene to every home with the aim of turning Tsuen Wan into the healthiest and most ideal place for living."
After the ceremony, the officiating guests and volunteers from local organisations visited some single elderly residing in Lei Muk Shue Estate and distributed cleaning packs to them to show the community's concern for them.
Some Tsuen Wan District councillors and volunteers from the Hongkong Federation of Youth Groups, Yuen Yuen Institute, Lei Muk Shue Residents Association and New Territories Association of Societies visited various locations in Lei Muk Shue Estate and distributed cleaning packs to the residents.

Under the household cleaning campaign for single elderly people, social enterprises engaged by the Tsuen Wan District Office will clean the flats and carry out minor household maintenance work for about 2,000 single elderly people in the district. The campaign aims to promote the "Clean Hong Kong" messages as well as showing the community's concern to the elderly.
To enhance the environmental hygiene of the rural areas, the Tsuen Wan District Office will conduct regular inspections in those areas and will organise joint cleaning operations with the relevant government departments and cleaning contractors when necessary.
To improve the hygiene conditions of the buildings in the district, the Tsuen Wan District Office has hired contractors to carry out one-off cleaning work in the common areas of 110 private buildings without owners' associations. The campaign aims to convey to residents the message of hygiene and encourage them to establish owners' corporations to properly manage the buildings and conduct regular cleaning work.
