SED to lead delegation to Beijing to celebrate National Day
***********************************************************

The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, will lead a delegation of teachers and principals on a professional exchange to Beijing on Sunday (September 27).  They will participate in various exchange activities while celebrating the 60th National Day.

Mr Suen will meet Vice-minister of Education Mr Yuan Guiren and talk about the key tasks of the Education Bureau (EDB) this year, which include a series of national activities in celebration of the 60th National Day, and the further implementation of the "Passing on the Torch National Education Activity Series" which was introduced earlier this year to enhance teachers and students' understanding of our country and strengthen their sense of national identity.

The 150-member delegation comprises teachers and principals of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and representatives from tertiary institutions and educational organisations.

The delegation will call on the Ministry of Education and attend a seminar on the country's latest developments in education.  Members will also tour local schools and take part in various visits and exchange activities.

The delegation is organised by the EDB, with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR and sponsored by Meng's Foundation Limited. The visit provides an opportunity for members of the education sector in Hong Kong to gain a better understanding of the development and achievements of the Mainland while celebrating the 60th National Day in the capital in order to encourage them to help promote national education in schools.

Mr Suen will return to Hong Kong next Tuesday (September 29).
