Delegation of the Legislative Council continues its visit in Budapest (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The delegation of the Legislative Council began its official visit programme in Budapest of the Republic of Hungary yesterday (September 21), which is the last stop of its visit to Central Europe.   

     On September 21, the delegation met with Mr Dezso Avarkeszi, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Law Enforcement, and Mr Laszlo Varkonyi, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  The delegation also attended a dinner hosted by Mr Laszlo Varju, Chairman of the National Assemblyˇ¦s Hungary-China Inter-Parliamentary Union Friendship Group and State Secretary of the Ministry of National Development and Economy.    

     The delegation received a briefing on the constitutional structure of Hungary.  Having learnt that the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly had just resigned last week, the delegation had an in-depth discussion with Mr Avarkeszi on the latest political situation of the country.  The discussion was so informative and vivid that the meeting was extended for an hour.

     The delegation will meet with the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly; the Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights, Minorities, Civil and Religion Affairs; the Chairwoman of the Constitutional, Judicial and Standing Orders Committee; and senior staff of the National Assembly today (September 22).

     In the evening, the delegation will leave Budapest and return to Hong Kong.
