Police anti-triad operation nets 34 persons

     To combat triad and drugs related activities at the entertainment premises in Tsim Sha Tsui area, officers of the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West conducted an undercover operation, codenamed ¡¥Operation Sidefilter¡¦, since October 2008 to investigate various triad and drugs related activities in the area.

     The operation turned overt last Saturday (September 19) and is still ongoing. Up till now, officers of the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West have raided various locations and arrested a total of 30 men and 4 women, aged between 16 and 46, for various offences including possession of arms or ammunition without licence, possession of prohibited weapons, possession of offensive weapons, wounding, trafficking in dangerous drugs, unlawful assembly and other triad and drugs related offences.

     Eight men and a woman, aged between 16 and 34, were charged with related offences and will appear at the Kowloon City Magistrate¡¦s Courts tomorrow (September 22). Four men, aged between 17 and 32, will be detained while 18 men and 3 women have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

     During the operation, police have seized some weapons which include stun guns, extendable batons, knuckledusters and water pipes. About 57 grams of suspected Ketamine which worth about $6 400 were also seized.

     The operation is still ongoing.
