The spokesperson of the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH) made the following announcement regarding the death of a human swine influenza (HSI) patient on September 19.
A 33-year-old woman attended the Accident and Emergency Department of AHNH on September 16 due to repeated vomitting. The patient suffered from diabetes mellitus and she was a smoker. Her condition deteriorated on September 18 and she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. She developed pneumonia but there were no significant influenza-like symptoms. She succumbed at 1.43pm on September 19. Positive result for HSI was confirmed after her death.
The case has been reported to the Coroner, Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection. The health care team has been in close communication with the patient's relatives and explained to them the patient's condition. The hospital would like to express its sincere condolences to the patient's family.
