Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 18) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $68,000 on behalf of 28 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Poon Ng Tang trading as Pun Kee Construction Co did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $6,080.29, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, Rever Expression Salon Limited and Kuen Kee (Hong Kong) Transportation Co Limited, did not appear and in their absence were ordered to pay the MPFA $36,139.92 and $26,715.36, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $160, $176 and $126.
