A fatal case of human swine influenza patient at United Christian Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of United Christian Hospital (UCH) made the following announcement regarding the death of a critical human swine influenza (HSI) patient today (17 September)¡G

     A 61-year-old male patient with a history of multiple chronic illnesses including cerebral vascular accident, chronic alcoholic liver disease and tuberculosis developed flu like symptoms on 29 August and was admitted via Accident & Emergency Department of UCH on 2 September. Positive result of HSI was confirmed and he was isolated with serious condition on 3 September.  The patient was treated with tamiflu, relenza and multiple antibiotics.  His condition continued to deteriorate, he suffered from complication of liver failure and succumbed at 5:22pm today (17 September). The patient is not an old aged home resident.

     The case has been reported to HA Head Office and Centre for Health Protection. We would like to express our condolences to the patient¡¦s family.
