Thanks to the Yan Chai Emergency Assistance Relief Fund and Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, 500 underprivileged and low-income families have received electric fans for free.
Organised by the Home Affairs Department, the two funds handed out the electric fans to families in need in Sham Shui Po. Most of them are new arrivals, elderly singletons and low-income families.
The Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yan Chai Hospital, Mr Wilfred Ng; the Director of the Board of Directors, Mr Clement Fung; and the District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Ms May Chan, gave an electric fan to a family during their visit to an old building in the district.
"The city registered its longest Very Hot Weather Warning in September on record and this is why we specially seek the sponsorship of the electric fans for the disadvantaged," said Mrs Tan.
Mrs Tan thanked the funds for their kind sponsorship, which will help the underprivileged and low-income families.
Mr Ng said it was meaningful to help the underprivileged.
