The spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement regarding the death of a critical human swine influenza (HSI) patient today (September 2)¡G
A 47-year-old male patient with history of leukemia was admitted to PYNEH Intensive Care Unit via the Accident and Emergency Department for fever and shortness of breath on August 27. Positive result of HSI was confirmed on August 28 and he was given tamiflu and antibiotics treatment. He remained in critical condition and required ventilation support during hospitalisation. His condition continued to deteriorate and he succumbed at 4.06pm today.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection. The healthcare team has all along been in close communication with the patient's family regarding the patient¡¦s condition. The case will be referred to Coroner.
We would like to express our condolences to the patient's family.
