Proprietor fined for violation of safety rule

     Fu Shing Engineering (Trading) Limited was fined $15,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Court today (September 2) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance.  The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident which occurred on July 16 last year in a workplace in Mong Kok.  A worker was electrocuted when touching an ineffectively earthed recessed downlight installed on the false ceiling.
 
     According to Section 6A(1) & 6A(2)(a) of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the proprietor shall provide and maintain a system of work that is, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risk to health of the person employed.  Any proprietor who fails to do so is liable to a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for six months.
