Two public hospitals participate in rescue of traffic accident victims

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the traffic accident at North Lantau this morning (August 28), the spokesperson for the Hospital Authority (HA) gave the following information concerning the provision of emergency treatment to the injured at public hospitals:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) received notification from the Fire Services Control Centre at 4.17am today (August 28) to prepare for the admission of a large number of victims due to a traffic accident.

     In accordance with our standard procedures, the HA immediately notified the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department of two public hospitals,  Princess Margaret Hospital and Yan Chai Hospital, to activate the Civil Disaster Contingency Plan. The hospitals immediately made the necessary arrangements and deployments to get ready for receiving and providing emergency treatment to the injured.

     In close collaboration with the Fire Services Department, the HA  dispatched one medical team comprising a doctor and a nurse from Princess Margaret Hospital to the accident site to provide urgent treatment.

     Totally there were 22 victims delivered to the two hospitals.  Twenty male victims (aged 24-54) were transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital, two (aged 25 and 46) in serious condition and three (aged 29-46) in stable condition; 15 were discharged.  Two male victims were transferred to Yan Chai hospital, one (aged 53) in critical condition and the other (aged 24) in serious condition.  

     The HA spokesperson expressed deep condolences to the victims of the accident and reassured them that every effort had been and would continue to be made to provide the best possible clinical as well as psycho-social treatment to the injured to facilitate their early recovery.
