Sir Robert Ho Tung Fund allocates grants to 193 charitable projects

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has allocated $12.6 million to 193 charitable projects in the areas of medicine and health, rehabilitation, social welfare, education, community service and anti-drug abuse this year.

     A spokesman for the Fund's Allocation Committee said today (August 28), "The fund's donation enables about 120 organisations to enhance their services which will benefit a large number of people, especially the underprivileged."

     Major grants included:

* $1.09 million for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to purchase equipment for the elderly and chronically ill patients, and to organise education camps for children with intellectual disabilities;

* $695,000 for Tuen Mun Hospital to acquire medical and nursing equipment for its in-patient wards;

* $517,000 for Yan Chai Hospital to acquire medical and nursing equipment for its patients and the elderly;

* $482,000 for Po Leung Kuk to renovate a service centre for the elderly and to acquire medical equipment and organise programmes for children with intellectual disabilities;

* $479,000 for the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council to acquire medical and nursing equipment for the elderly;

* $468,000 for Kowloon Hospital to replace the Wheelchair Treadmill Training System for its Physiotherapy Department;

* $430,000 for the Salvation Army to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children, youth and the elderly; and

* $367,000 for the Hong Kong St John Ambulance to replace a five-seater van for transporting the ambulancemen and first aid equipment to duty venues.

     Other fund recipients included the Hong Kong Red Cross, the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, the Hong Kong Society for the Aged, the Hong Kong Society for the Blind, Prince of Wales Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital, United Christian Hospital and Wu Oi Christian Centre.

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund, one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung.  It is now managed by HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Limited.
