Fatal traffic accident in Western

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Western in which a 53-year-old man was killed this afternoon (August 27).

At about 5 pm, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 25-year-old man was travelling out from Western Wholesale Food Market, while right turn to Fung Mat Road westbound, it reportedly knocked down a 53-year-old man who was standing near a construction site.

Sustaining serious injuries, the man was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital where he was certified dead at 6.35 pm.

    The man who driven the MGV was arrested for ˇ§dangerous driving causing deathˇ¨, ˇ§using a vehicle without third party insuranceˇ¨, ˇ§driving without a valid licenceˇ¨ and ˇ§taking conveyance without authorityˇ¨. A 25-year-old male passenger with was arrested for ˇ§aiding and abetting others for illegal actˇ¨.

   Arrested persons will be detained overnight.

Investigations by the Western Divisional Investigation Team, are proceeding.
