A deceased H3 patient in PYNEH

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) spokesperson made the following announcement today (24 August 2009)ĄG

     A 76-year old male patient was admitted to PYNEH medical ward via the Accident and Emergency Department for influenza like illness and shortness of breath on 21 August 2009 evening. He was given antibiotics treatment during hospitalization. Respiratory specimen was taken for laboratory test.

     In the early morning of 22 August 2009, the patient's condition deteriorated with cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed but unsuccessful. The patient succumbed at 05:39am on the same day.

     Laboratory result received today confirmed the positive result of Influenza A (H3) and the case was reported to HA Head Office and Centre for Health Protection.

     We would like to express our condolences to the patient's family.
