The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (August 19) urged members of the public and management of institutions to take preventive measures against human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1) by observing strict environmental and personal hygiene.
The appeal was made following the CHP's investigation into a report of human swine influenza (HSI) outbreak in a residential child care centre in Causeway Bay, affecting a total of 21 children.
The CHP's investigations revealed that 15 boys and six girls, aged from six to 15, have developed fever, cough and sore throat since August 9.
All the affected children sought medical treatment. They are in stable condition and no hospitalisation is required. Seventeen of them tested positive for HSI.
CHP staff have visited the centre and provided health advice to the staff. The centre is under medical surveillance.
