Tango-A-Tierra from Argentina will visit Hong Kong in October for three sensual and passionate dance performances.
With the heart-stirring music of the bandoneon and a live band, the production traces the evolution of tango, from its traditional roots to the many colourful variations in modern choreography. Performed with crisp precision by top tango dancers and stars and musicians from Broadway, the show promises to be an unforgettable experience for audiences that will set their senses afire.
Played out in the heartbreaking, bluesy tunes and seductive allure of tango in its most soulful form, the performances will be at 8pm, Friday and Saturday, October 16 and 17, at the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall; and 8pm, Sunday, October 18, at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre.
Tango-A-Tierra, was founded by Guillermo Salvat and Silvia Grynt in 2005, as a realisation of their artistic ideas and their perception of tango - a complex discipline in theatrical terms. Salvat and Grynt first became dancing partners in 2001. They have since performed and taught worldwide, spanning Australia, Europe, South Africa and the American continent. They also participated in important international festivals and performed with prestigious companies such as Tango X 2 and Solo Tango.
The versatile Salvat's multidisciplinary training, apart from dance, includes music, the plastic arts, foreign languages and law. He made his debut in 1999, in Sassari, Italy, at a show presented by the company Todo Tango. One of the highlights of his career was a ballet performance at the Argentinean Pavilion at the Universal Exposition in Hannover, Germany, in 2000.
Grynt began her dance training at the age of 8. Between 1998 and 2000, she furthered her dance training in the United States, where she attended ballet, modern dance and jazz classes at the Steps studio in Broadway, the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and the Broadway Dance Center in New York City. She has performed professionally with many ballet companies, including a special appearance with the Royal Ballet of England at the Luna Park Stadium, Buenos Aires, and at the show ˇ§Expansionesˇ¨ by Diana Theocaridis, at the Centro Cultural General San Martin in Buenos Aires in 1996.
"Tango-A-Tierra" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets ranging from $100 to $300 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A tango workshop (conducted in English by Guillermo Salvat and Silvia Grynt) will also be held at 7.30pm on October 15 (Thursday) at GR3, 8/F, Grand Theatre Backstage, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $150 are available at URBTIX outlets. Participants with tango experience are welcome.
