Following is the transcript (English portion) of remarks by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, at a media session after attending an anti-drug seminar for secondary teachers this afternoon (August 14):
Reporter: Many people have criticised the Government for not giving enough money to implement the scheme ...
Chief Secretary for Administration: We are serious about the scheme and we will allocate an appropriate level of resources so that the scheme can be carried out successfully. In terms of resources, it all revolves around allocation of Government resources and I said many times that we will give appropriate resources.
It involves calculation because we don't know how much is necessary, how many more social workers, how many more resource centres, or how many more rehab centres, or what additional resources these rehab centres will require, so we cannot arbitrarily suggest a number. We want to give them appropriate support so that they can carry it out properly.
