Six employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 14) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $73,000 on behalf of 35 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Chun Ngai Printing Company Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $12,421.38, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants, Golden Ken Seafood Trading Limited, Dreamy Tin Box Limited, New Wave Decor Limited, Lee Tai-Tai trading as Chun Ho Transportation Company and Lee Pui Yee formerly trading as Hi-Speed Delivery Company, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $17,415.16, $17,055, $12,254.36, $9,865.20 and $4,537.46, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $96, $165, $201, $96, $129 and $90.

     Chun Ngai Printing Company Limited was previously fined a total of $14,500 on eight counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time.
