The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) early this morning (August 14) seized about 470 kilogrammes of chilled poultry in a raid on an unlicensed food factory near Po Lau Road, Kwu Tung, Sheung Shui, suspected of packing poultry meat illegally.

A man arrested during the operation is assisting investigations.

Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

"We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.

"People should report such illegal activities through the 1823 Call Centre."
