The Hong Kong Oratorio Society will present the concert "The Golden Baroque: Handel and his Friends" in September to play European music of the 17th and 18th centuries with its gorgeous and elaborate style of musical ornamentation.
The programme includes Baroque music from England: Clarke's "Trumpet Voluntary"; Italy: excerpts from Vivaldi's "Gloria in D" and Concerto for Harp & Strings; and Germany: excerpts from Bach's "Magnificat in D". On the 250th anniversary of Handel's death, there will also be excerpts from Handel's "Messiah".
Under the baton of Professor Chan Wing-wah, the Hong Kong Oratorio Society will perform with members of the local music elite, including the Hong Kong Strings, Wong Kin-yu (organ), Peter Yue (harpsichord), Teresa Suen (harp), soprano Penelope Chan, counter-tenor Enico Luk, tenor Sam Kan and bass Petrus Cheung.
