*******************************************************
Stage IV of the Secondary Six (S6) Admission Procedure was completed today (August 7). At present, there is only one school, Buddhist Wai Yan Memorial College, left with 11 subsidised S6 places, nine places for the Arts (English medium) stream and two places for the Science (English medium) stream. In this regard, there will not be any central allocation of places (Stage V) as scheduled tomorrow (August 8). All Central Allocation Application Centres will not operate.
All Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) participants with current year results which meet the minimum A-level entry requirements but have not yet obtained an S6 place may bring along the originals of their identification documents and current year HKCEE Results Notices to Buddhist Wai Yan Memorial College (25 Tai Hing Tai Road, Cheung Chau) between 9am and 3.30pm tomorrow to apply for admission directly. There will not be any interviews of applicants. The school will inform successful applicants on or before August 12 (Wednesday) to proceed with registration.
Since some students who have secured places under the S6 Admission Procedure may decide not to take up their places at the beginning of the new school year, S6 vacancy information will still be available on the Education Bureau¡¦s S6 Admission Procedure webpage and at all of the bureau¡¦s Regional Education Offices throughout September. Eligible students who have yet to secure an S6 place may apply directly to the schools with vacancies.
Besides S6 school places, students can choose from a variety of sub-degree programmes based on their interests. For course details, they can refer to the Information Portal for Accredited Self-financing Post-secondary Programmes at www.ipass.gov.hk or the websites of individual tertiary education institutions for publicly-funded programmes.
As for Project Yi Jin, the Federation for Continuing Education in Tertiary Institutions (FCE) will hold a joint registration for the full-time programme at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre at Kowloon Bay on August 8 and 9 and will receive applications on-site. Students who have successfully completed the programme will be awarded a full certificate that is comparable to five passes in HKCEE, with which they can further their studies by taking courses run by the FCE's member institutions as well as other institutions; or seek employment, including applying for civil service posts. In addition, the bureau has arranged for an approved course provider to provide evening secondary courses (Secondary 1 to Secondary 7) in designated government school premises. Students meeting relevant requirements will be eligible for a reimbursement of 30%, 50% or 100% of the tuition fee. For application details, please call the Hong Kong College of Technology at 2192 8118.
