The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 29) obtained two orders in the District Court against two employers for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $390,000. The MPFA also pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $33,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.
The District Court today issued judgment against New Jade Roasted Goose & Seafood Restaurant Limited and Acme 2 Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $343,176.77 and $53,355 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 61 and three employees of the defendants.
At the tribunal's hearing, Hoi On Security Company Limited did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $33,816.84, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the defendant to pay costs of $205.40.
Hoi On Security Company Limited was previously fined $8,000 for failing to enrol an employee in an MPF scheme.
