Hong Kong Observatory front page gets a face-lift
*************************************************

The Hong Kong Observatory today (July 28) launched a more user-friendly front page.  The revamped front page carries the most popular weather information on one screen and hyperlinks to other webpages have been replaced by a tool bar with a pop-up drop-down menu for easy access.

Since the launch of the Observatory¡¦s website (www.hko.gov.hk and www.weather.gov.hk) in 1996, the number of page visits has increased rapidly at an average rate of 56% per year.  Last year, the number of page visits topped 1.3 billion and there could be as many as 15 million visits on a single day during severe weather.  The revamping exercise is another step that the Observatory has made towards meeting public demand.

A keen member of the ¡¥Friends of the Observatory¡¦ interest group, Mr Ng Pui-man is happy with the latest change, ¡§The new design of the Observatory front page takes care of even the smallest details and presents the most popular weather information at a glance.¡¨

People are invited to contribute their comments or suggestions on this face-lift to webmaster@hko.gov.hk to help the Observatory do its job better.
