United Christian Hospital fatal case of human swine influenza

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     In response to the death case of human swine influenza of a Filipino female patient, the spokesperson of United Christian Hospital today (July 27) made the following update:

     The Filipino woman attended Accident and Emergency Department of United Christian Hospital on July 7 night.  She was directly admitted to Intensive Care Unit and with severe pneumonia. Admission Screening reviewed that no MRSA.  The patient has been on Tamiflu and antibiotics treatment.  She was in critical condition requiring mechanical ventilation. Relenza was tried but stopped because of patient intolerance.  A life support system (Extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation system) was put on July 13.  Her condition continued to deteriorate and she was certified dead at 17:47 today (July 27).  The case has been referred to Coroner.  We have informed her family, employers and the Consulate General of Philippines immediately.  

     We would like to send our condolences to her family.
