Nine employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 17) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $111,000 on behalf of 63 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Two defendants, HK Szyy Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited and Chan Choi Hing formerly trading as Ka Yiu Knitting Factory did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $5,131.68 and $4,315.85, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other seven defendants, New Generation Travel Limited, Leung Ming Fai trading as Sky Light Trading Transport CO, Yip Wah Man trading as Tung Shing Metal Wares Steel, Build Fame Engineer Limited, Ho Shu Tim And Lee Kwok Kit William trading as Fortune Mind Transportation Co, C B Sons Limited and Vanquish Container Transportation Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $48,683.81, $26,471.17, $14,395.50, $8,089.92, $2,170, $1,430 and $744.92, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $176, $129, $180, $159, $80, $139, $129, $86 and $69.
