The Government today (July 17) announced the re-appointment of eight incumbent members and appointment of eight new members to the Elderly Commission. The appointments will take effect from July 30 for a term of two years.
The eight incumbent members who have been re-appointed are Dr Leong Che-hung (chairman), Professor Alfred Chan Cheung-ming (vice-chairman), Mr Kenneth Chan Chi-yuk, Mr Chan Han-pan, Professor Helen Chiu Fung-kum, Rev Dorothy Lau Wai-ling, Mr Leo Ma Chan-hang and Dr Loretta Yam Yin-chun.
The eight new members are Dr Felix Chan Hon-wai, Dr Cheng Kam-chung, Dr Cheung Moon-wah, Dr Alice Chong Ming-lin, Mr Patrick Ma Ching-hang, Mr Timothy Ma Kam-wah, Mr Marco Wu Moon-hoi and Mr Stephen Yau How-boa. Brief biographies of these eight new members are given in the Annex.
The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the new appointments and re-appointments. He looked forward to hearing the valuable views of the members who came from various social backgrounds and areas of expertise on the development of elderly services in Hong Kong.
Mr Cheung also thanked two outgoing members, Mr Star Chan Iu-seng and Dr Lam Ching-choi, for their valuable contribution during their tenure.
The Elderly Commission was established in 1997 to advise the Government on the formulation of a comprehensive policy for elders. The Commission includes members from the health care, social welfare, elder services, professionals and academic sectors.
