The Wan Chai District Office and Wan Chai District Council today (July 3) jointly began a home visits programme to promote anti-flu messages. Councillors and volunteers will visit singleton elderly and underprivileged families in the district.
In the three-month programme, volunteers from St James' Settlement and Methodist Centre will visit about 1,000 flats of singleton elderly and underprivileged families. District Officer (Wan Chai), Mr William Yuen, Wan Chai District Council Chairman, Mr Suen Kai-cheong, and councillors joined volunteers at a launch ceremony, and visited some families to explain precautionary measures and distribute disinfectant packs.
After the visit, they distributed disinfectant packs to citizens at Bowrington Road, Wan Chai and Wong Nai Chung markets in the district, to raise their awareness of personal, household and environmental hygiene.
Mr Yuen said, "Better understanding of human swine flu and measures to guard against infection on the part of the elderly is important in containing the spread of the disease in the community. Through the visits, we hope that the elderly will pay more attention to personal hygiene and flu prevention and be less worried about the disease."
Mr Suen said that Wan Chai District Council would continue to work closely with the District Office and other relevant departments in promoting anti-flu messages through different means.
