Seven employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 2) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $129,000 on behalf of 19 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Good Fair Holdings Limited trading as Tokyo Sushi did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $12,703.01, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other six defendants, Fung Shing Hoi trading as Siu Sun Loong, Joyful Management & Security Co. Limited, 668 International Limited trading as Hifu Medical Technology Company, Start Plan Investments Limited trading as Aberdeen Kam Moon Lau Restaurant, Boway Diamond Limited and Sunny Grow Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $44,966.25, $29,379.92, $18,278.66, $14,115.90, $7,200 and $2,245.65, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $129, $209, $183, $110, $149, $96 and $108.

     Joyful Management & Security Co. Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts to two counts of failing to make MPF contribution on time and was fined $5,500.
