Hong Kong China Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of music director and conductor Lim Kek-han, will feature young violin soloist Andrew Wong in a concert of Chinese and Western music in August.
The concert will present four pieces, He Luting's "Night Party", Liu Tieshan and Mao Yuan's "Dance of the Yao People", Saint-Sa?ns's "Violin Concerto No.3 in B Minor, Op.61" and Beethoven's "Symphony No.3 in E-flat, Op.55, 'Eroica'".
Violinist Andrew Wong, who is currently doing a master's degree at Imperial College London, trains under Professor Rashkovsky at the Royal College of Music. Wong started violin lessons with Lim Kek-han and was an active member of the Hong Kong China Philharmonic Orchestra. He obtained an FRSM in violin performing, an LRSM in piano performing and AMusTCL in music literacy.
Conductor and violinist Lim Kek-han studied violin under renowned Russian violinist Ywan Federoff and Dutch master Frits Hinse. Lim represented Holland three times in international music forums and performed in the presence of Queen Elizabeth of Belgium. He was the concertmaster of the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, the representative of China to perform with renowned orchestras in the USSR in 1958, as well as the conductor of the Central Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1963.
The Hong Kong China Philharmonic Orchestra, formerly named the Lim Kek-han Philharmonic Orchestra, has frequently held concerts and collaborated with renowned soloists and guest conductors from the Mainland and overseas to bring different kinds of music to audiences. The orchestra works hard to introduce Chinese music rearranged in a modern style, including the "Yellow River Cantata" concert and an outdoor concert performed with a 300-member choir in the Festival of Asian Arts in 1982.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong China Philharmonic Orchestra Concert will be at 8pm on August 1 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $80, $110 and $140 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
