Virtuosi show charm of Peking and Kunqu operas

     Jingkun Theatre and Shandong Peking Opera Theatre will join again to perform in the August event, "The Exquisite Charm of Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera - Two art forms worthy of close appreciation". The programme includes Peking opera "Jin Yunu" and excerpts of Peking and Kunqu operas.

     The story of "Jin Yunu" is about a poor scholar Mok and his wife Jin. Once Mok's career was up and running, he tried to get rid of Jin by pushing her into the water when they were travelling on the river. Fortunately, she was rescued by government official Lin who showed what Mok had done to his wife.

     Performing in the shows are the recipient of the 8th Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Theatre, Tang Yuen-ha; the Best Actor in the Third Festival of Traditional Chinese Opera in Paris, Geng Tianyuan; National Class One Performer, Wang Yujin, who specialises in comic roles; Zheng Shaohua, Chen Chen, Jin Zhiyong, Zhang Liming, Qiu Xiujuan and artistes from the Shandong Peking Opera Theatre.

     Performances will be staged at the Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Details are as follows:

Excerpts: "Resecuing His Sister at the Bright Sun Mansion" (Peking opera); "Li Kui Visits His Mother" (Peking opera); "Pursuing the Dream" and "The Portrait" from "The Peony Pavilion" (Kunqu opera)

     Tickets priced at $280 and $160 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or over, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients.
