EDB announces 14-day class suspension of 3 secondary schools
************************************************************

The Education Bureau (EDB) announced today (June 20) that classes of three schools would be suspended for 14 days between tomorrow (June 21) and July 4 (Saturday).

     The three schools are:

(1)  Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo) in Kwun Tong
(2)  Ning Po College in Kwun Tong
(3)  West Island School in the Southern District

The decision was made after a joint assessment by EDB and the Department of Health (DH) upon confirmation of contracted cases of human swine influenza in the schools.

DH was actively tracing students and teachers who might have been in contact with the contracted students and would offer treatment and necessary medical surveillance for those in need.

An EDB spokesman said the schools would put in place contingency measures relating to class suspension and inform parents of the arrangements.

During the class suspension period, the schools would strengthen measures to ensure environmental hygiene, including thoroughly cleansing and disinfecting the school premises, and arrange staff to be on duty to handle school affairs and answer parents' enquiries.

EDB will maintain close liaison with DH and the schools to offer timely support and advice.
