Tai Po District Office and Tai Po Rural Committee today (June 17) held a health talk on the prevention of human swine influenza, attended by about 100 village representatives and villagers.
A doctor from the Hong Kong Medical Association Tai Po Community Network was invited to brief the audience on the latest news, symptoms and mode of transmission of the disease, and shared with the elderly some simple tips on healthy living. Villagers were encouraged to observe personal, household and environment hygiene, and play a part in lowering the risk of outbreaks in village areas.
With the summer approaching, a registered nurse from the Department of Health's Visiting Health Team of Tai Po & North District was also invited to provide the elderly with health messages on the prevention of heatstroke, and remind them of things to note particularly when attending outdoor activities in the hot weather.
Tai Po District Officer, Mr Eddie Poon, said, "The talk aimed to promote public participation in the fight against the pandemic and provide health tips to villagers to enhance their awareness of the prevention of disease. The Tai Po District Office will continue to work closely with district organisations to provide comprehensive support to the elderly people in the district."
