An exhibition using video recording art and photographic works to probe the identity of individuals in the world of the unknown is on display at the Hong Kong Film Archive from tomorrow (June 16) until July 26.
Entitled ¡§Unknown ¢w Works by Wai-kit Lam¡¨, the exhibition provides the artist Lam Wai-kit with a platform to communicate with viewers through electronic and digital art and to invite them to think about their existence in the world of uncertainty.
Lam Wai-kit has wide creative experience using different media, ranging from painting and photography to video recording art. Lam opts to create with video recording because it encompasses image, sound and decoration. For Lam, life is full of perplexing fragments, and the uncertainties of the unknown environment often upset her, so she keeps trying to explore them in her works and to interact with viewers.
In Lam's photography and video recording works, images of herself are always merged with different living environments in an attempt to find her true identity. In this exhibition, Lam created the works by mixing the images of different figures with living spaces, buildings, household environments, pedestrians¡¦ footsteps and personal steps and having them played synchronously on three screens facing each other. The video works do not have any script, narration or dialogue. The characters in the works, whether motionless or moving in different time and space, show some degree of uncertainty. The sounds in life ¡V sounds from traffic, footsteps, heartbeat, clock - urge viewers to search for their roles through the images captured in the videos.
The ¡§Unknown ¢w Works by Wai-kit Lam¡¨ is the seventh exhibition organised under the Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme IV by the Art Promotion Office (APO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be moved to 6/F, Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre, from August 7-23.

The Hong Kong Film Archive is located at 50 Lei King Road, Sai Wan Ho. The Exhibition Hall is open daily from 10am to 8pm, and is closed on Thursdays. The Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre is located at 23 Yuk Wah Street, Wong Tai Sin, and is open daily from 9am to 9pm. Admission is free.
