Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) made by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, at a meet-the-media session after attending URA Luncheon today (May 22):
Reporter : How difficult would it be for the property owners to retrofit their existing buildings? What is the Government¡¦s role?
SEN: I think the involvement varies. The first challenge would be the knowledge gap, i.e. does the property owner realise that there is a tremendous scope for them to conserve energy on the one hand and make savings on the other. So that¡¦s why the Government is keen to nurture change agents, including the property managers, engineers, equipment suppliers to join us in this campaign promoting building energy efficiency. So for these change agents, it is also part of their job to talk to owners, introducing them to this scheme and the possibility where they can have a ¡§win-win¡¨ situation whereby through some retrofitting works they can help owners make savings. Also these measures themselves could be the business opportunities for these agents.
