The Kwai Tsing District Office and Kwai Tsing District Council today (May 20) held a ceremony at Central Plaza, Kwai Chung Estate, to unveil a week-long flat cleaning operation for Kwai Tsing single elderly people.
Kwai Tsing Assistant District Officer, Miss Fabia Tam, Kwai Tsing District Council Chairman, Mr Tang Kwok-kong, Kwai Tsing district councillors and representatives of district organisations and area committees were present at the ceremony. A number of District Council members then paid visits to single elderly people and distributed disinfectant packs to show the community's concern for them.
The flat cleaning campaign was jointly organised by the Kwai Tsing District Office and Kwai Tsing District Council. Domestic helpers would be assigned to help about 700 single elderly people clean and sterilise their flats. Household cleaning items would also be distributed to the elderly singletons.
Mr Tang said, "A considerable number of single elderly people live in Kwai Tsing. The campaign can help the elders to improve their living environment and remind residents of the importance of personal hygiene, as well as enhancing public awareness about the prevention of human swine influenza."
To improve the hygiene conditions of the buildings in the district, Kwai Tsing District Office together with the Kwai Tsing District Council have hired contractors to clean the public areas, including backstairs or rooftops, at the single block buildings that are without owners' corporations or committees.
To enhance public participation in the fight against the human swine influenza, Kwai Tsing District Office, Kwai Tsing District Council and some district organisations have already organised various promotional and educational activities, such as distributing disinfectant packs and leaflets, organising health seminars and producing and displaying posters and banners.
