CSSA caseload for April

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in April showed a decrease of 271 cases over March, representing a drop of 0.1%, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (May 20).

     Total CSSA caseload at the end of April stood at 289,198 (see attached table), with a total of 480,451 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed an increase of 0.4% to 33,510.

     Single parent cases registered a month-to-month increase of 0.02% to 36,845.

     Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 1.0% to stand at 16,135.

     Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $18 billion for 2007-08.
