LegCo Delegation to Visit PRD Tomorrow

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The President of the Legislative Council, Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, will lead members of the Panel on Economic Development and the Panel on Environmental Affairs to conduct a duty visit to Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nansha and Zhuhai from tomorrow (May 15) to next Monday (May 18).

     The visit was arranged upon receiving an invitation by the Guangdong authorities. The President believed that the visit will enable LegCo Members to gain a better understanding of the economic development and environment protection efforts in the Pearl River Delta area, and facilitate communication and cooperation between Members and the Guangdong authorities.

     During the visit, the delegation will tour around facilities in the Guangdong Province related to logistics, tourism and environmental protection, including logistics centre, port and airport facilities, household waste incineration and power generation facilities, wetland park and the landing site of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

     The delegation will also meet with officials of the Guangdong Provincial Government, Shenzhen Tourism Bureau and Hong Kong entrepreneurs running business in the Mainland to discuss issues of mutual concern.

     The itinerary of the visit is as follows:

May 15, 2009 (Friday)
3pm   Departing LegCo Building and heading for Yantian Port and OCT East Resort in Shenzhen
6.45pm   Meeting with Shenzhen Tourism Bureau
8.45pm   Meeting with Hong Kong entrepreneurs running business in the Mainland

May 16, 2009 (Saturday)
8.30am   Departing for BYD Company Limited and South China International Logistics Centre
1.30pm   Departing for Shenzhen International Airport and a municipal solid waste incineration plant in Baoan
4pm   Departing for Guangzhou
7.30pm   Night cruise of Zhujiang

May 17, 2009 (Sunday)
8.45am   Departing for Guangzhou Likeng WTE Plant
11am   Meeting with Guangdong Provincial Government officials
3.50pm   Departing for Nansha Wetland Park and South China Oceangate Container Terminal Company Limited
7.10pm   Departing for Zhuhai and observing the energy saving facilities of Nansha city

May 18, 2009 (Monday)
8.30am   Departing for the landing site of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and visiting the Zhuhai Library for an exhibition on Zhuhai town planning
1pm   Departing for Hong Kong at Jiuzhou Port, Zhuhai

     The delegation has 25 members, including the President.
