Seven employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 13) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $172,000 on behalf of 27 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, seven defendants, namely Matedesign Limited, Binger Marketing Work Company Limited, Massgood Investment Limited trading as Masswell Parking Equipment & Consultant Company, Lee Wing Kei formerly trading as Sunshine Cafe, Kentoys Limited, Star Fortune Asia Limited and Top Smart Property Management Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $37,253.92, $36,831.3, $30,240, $27,922.49, $27,355.24, $8,755 and $3,163.06, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal also ordered the defendants to pay $185, $189, $165, $120, $205, $122 and $80 as the costs in respect of the claims.
