Eligible people urged to register as voters by May 16
*****************************************************

Eligible people who had yet to register as electors were reminded to submit their applications for voter registration by Saturday (May 16), so they could vote in future Legislative Council and District Council elections, a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (May 10).

Hong Kong permanent residents holding an identity document who have reached 18 years of age and ordinarily reside in Hong Kong are eligible to be registered as electors.

Registered electors do not need to register again. However, they should report any change of address or other registration particulars to the REO by June 29.

Electors are also encouraged to provide or update their email addresses. The email address will be provided to the candidates concerned for sending election advertisements.

Forms for voter registration and report of change of registration particulars are available from the District Offices, management offices of public housing estates and the REO. They can also be downloaded from the voter registration website (www.voterregistration.gov.hk).

Applications can be submitted by mail to the REO at 10/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, or by fax to 2891 1180.

Applicants should call the hotline 2891 1001, if they do not receive any reply from the REO within 14 days after they submit their applications.
