The Tai Po District Council and more than 15 district organisations today (May 5) launched a kick-off ceremony for the upcoming cleaning operation in Tai Po to fight against the human swine influenza.

The party cleaned the streets at Luk Heung Lane with the help of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department staff and distributed leaflets to the nearby shopowners to urge them to attach importance to personal and environmental hygiene.

Also, the Tai Po District Office convened special district management committee meetings with the Tai Po District Council and relevant government departments/parties on May 4 on ways to make better use of the additional government funding of $500,000 and community resources for promoting district cleaning activities.

Mr Poon said: ˇ§Apart from the cleaning operation, the Tai Po District Office will produce posters and leaflets on preventive measures against the human swine influenza and on information about personal hygiene.

ˇ§Depending on the development of the pandemic, the Tai Po District Office plans to organise seminars on preventive measures against the disease and deploy mobile publicity vehicle to disseminate relevant information to the public when needs arise.ˇ¨

Tai Po District Office is preparing some ˇ§flu prevention packagesˇ¨ for distribution to singleton elderly in the district, and arranging the dissemination of the latest updates and health advice about the disease via the Tai Po website (www.taipo.org).
