A fleet of parade buses will take part in the ˇ§International Museum Day 2009, Hong Kongˇ¨ on May 16 and 17 to introduce the missions and functions of local museums to various districts throughout Hong Kong.
ˇ§International Museum Day 2009, Hong Kongˇ¨ is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) in support of the International Museum Day (IMD) first designated on May 18, 1978, by the International Council of Museums.
More than 100 extension programmes will be provided during the two days by more than 30 museums and heritage institutions from Beijing, Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong. They include guided tours of museums and exhibitions, lectures, workshops, demonstrations, childrenˇ¦s programmes, video programmes and behind-the-scenes tours. A total of 32 participating local museums will be open free of charge during the two days.
Under the theme of ˇ§Museums On the Goˇ¨, an eclectic mix of programmes presented in a carnival atmosphere will be specially organised to reach out to the public. The highlight of the event is an automobile parade entitled ˇ§Museums On the Goˇ¨. A fleet of parade buses carrying performance teams will visit major tourist attraction spots and shopping areas on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon and the New Territories to show the rich offerings of the museums.
The ˇ§Museums On the Goˇ¨ parade buses will also be present at the opening ceremony and gala of ˇ§IMD 2009ˇ¨ at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza on May 16 (Saturday) from 2pm to 6pm. Museum mascots, clowns and international cultural ambassadors of the performance teams will participate in shows and bring fun to the public.
On May 17 (Sunday), the parade buses will tour around the city from 10am to 6pm. They will stop at Golden Bauhinia Square, Hong Kong Park, The Peak Galleria, Times Square on the Island; the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, Sai Yeung Choi Street South in Mong Kok, Kowloon Park, Hong Kong Science Museum in Kowloon; and the Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza, Tsuen Wan Town Hall Plaza, Tin Shui Wai Ginza Square, Mau Yip Road in Tseung Kwan O (Po Lam MTR Station) in New Territories.
