Commissioner saddened by death of Eddie Hui

    Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, said today (May 4) that he was deeply saddened by the death of ex-Commissioner of Police, Mr Eddie Hui.

    "Mr Hui was an outstanding leader and will be fondly remembered for the manner he professionally steered the Police Force through the 1997 transition of sovereignty and his warm personality.  I and my colleagues within the Hong Kong Police Force convey our deepest sympathy to his family," Mr Tang said.  

    Mr Hui joined the Force as a recruit Inspector in 1963, aged 19.  He was promoted to Superintendent in 1972, Chief Superintendent in 1982, Assistant Commissioner in 1984, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1989, Deputy Commissioner in 1993 and Commissioner in 1994.  He had served the Force for 38 years before he retired at the beginning of January 2001.
