New boundaries for Kwun Tong Public Cargo Working Area gazetted
*******************************************************

The Port Control (Public Cargo Working Area) Order 2009, made by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, was gazetted today (April 30).

The order declares the new boundaries of the Kwun Tong Public Cargo Working Area (PCWA), and is to take effect from June 25.

"The new demarcation enables the conversion of part of the currently unused site in the Kwun Tong PCWA into a promenade.  This is in line with the long term development under the Kai Tak Outline Zoning Plan," a Transport and Housing Bureau spokesman said.

The site occupied by the Kwun Tong PCWA is zoned for development into open space in the long term.  To enable the early conversion of the site into a promenade, the Government has re-arranged the berthing area in the Kwun Tong PCWA and made available a 200-metre contiguous stretch of marine frontage for conversion into a promenade.

Under the order, the Kwun Tong PCWA will occupy a total area of 23,000 square metres.  The order will be tabled at the Legislative Council on May 6.
