The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 23) pursued 12 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $108,000 on behalf of 42 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Two defendants, Igloo Company Limited and Ng Leung Him Philip trading as Tahoma Design Company, did not dispute the amounts claimed and were ordered to pay the MPFA $24,637.12 and $4,158 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other 10 defendants, Conrad Management Services Company Limited, Healing Hands Limited, Cheung Fat (Tseung Kwan O) Paint Company Limited, Long Harvest (H.K.) Limited, Wong Wing Man trading as Billy Lun Consultation Co., Chan Chow Engineering Company Limited, Fang Wen trading as Hei Do Lon Japanese Restaurant, Wah Yuen Property Agents Company Limited, Wong Chi Chor trading as Yee Kee Building Materials and C-Living Limited trading as The Paper Crane, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $27,746.01, $12,682.17, $8,925, $7,304.16, $7,245, $6,300, $3,052.50, $2,440.51, $2,300 and $1,957.70, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $126, $129, $126, $135, $160, $100, $130, $96, $205, $135, $99 and $76.
